Midas (II) --- 2024
The story of King Midas with donkey ears is a greek myth about a king who grew long hairy ears for his stupidity. Midas did not care for being stupid, but he did care for it to be visible. Ashamed for his ears, Midas hid them in a traditional Phrygian hat.
Only his barber knew his secret. The secret started to eat him up from inside, and eventually he diceded to dig a hole and whisper his secret in ths. Imediately he felt much better. Soon, however grass started to grow from the spot where he whispered his secret. This grass repeated when the wind went throught it “King midas has donkey ears! King midas has donkey ears!”
What is shame and how do we develop it? Why do we keep secrets and why do we need to keep them? How can we use shame as a compass?
Join me for an intimate one-on-one performance in the dunes where you can listen to my version of Midas’s story and experience the beauty of shame. The performance will take place in the dunes of Hoek van Holland, which is accesable by metro.
